Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Pounds per horsepower: 6.2

Engine: 505 horsepower, 7.0-liter V-8
Curb weight: 3,132 pounds
Zero to 60 mph: 3.7 seconds

The Z06 incorporates technology from the LeMans class-winning racing Corvettes. The car provides a rip-roaring good time, reaching 198 mph in testing on Germany's autobahn. And unlike most cars here, the 'Vette works well as a daily driver, with easy entry, a huge cargo hatch, a livable ride and surprisingly good mileage.
With rivals revving, '08 Corvette boosts horses, luxury
For 2008, the Chevrolet Corvette is getting a boost in performance, more luxury features and, most likely, a higher price. The changes are aimed at keeping the Corvette ahead of the performance-car pack amid stiffening competition, says John Rydzewski, the Corvette's assistant chief engineer.

The 2008 Indianapolis 500 will have two distinctive Corvettes serving as the official pace cars. The Corvette Z06 E85 concept (left) will run on E85 ethanol fuel and will be driven during the race's pace lap by two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Emerson Fittipaldi. The Corvette 30th Anniversary Pace Car (right) honors the 1978 model with its black and silver paint scheme. 1978 was the first year that a Corvette paced the field at the Indy 500.
The Chevrolet Corvette is a high-performance two-seater V-8 sports car with over 400-hp.

(GM) Corvette C6RS
This Corvette C6RS was built for Jay Leno by Pratt&Miller Engineering, the wizards behind the five-time Le Mans-winning Corvette Racing C6.R GT machines.
Powered by a Performance 8.2-liter (500ci) all-aluminum small-block V-8 engine that produces 600 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. torque on E85 fuel, the Pratt & Miller Corvette C6RS utilizes a purpose-built carbon fiber body that's lifted directly from its competition cars.
including a computer-controlled adjustable suspension system, center-nut black chrome forged aluminum BBS wheels (18 x 11-inch front, 19 x 13.6-inch rear) with Michelin Pilot Sport tires (P295/30-18 front and P345/30-19 rear), and ginormous Brembo GT monoblock disc brakes.
But the C6RS also comes with a custom-fitted two-tone leather interior and a comprehensive sound control system that presents a quiet, comfortable environment for driver and passenger.
The C6RS is essentially somewhere between a Corvette Z06 and the all-out racing version, which means it's mean and nasty with just a modicum of civility. Pratt&Miller is building an ultra-limited run of these supercars beginning in April 2008. You can read more about the C6RS at www.prattmillerc6rs.com.
The new ZR-1 will be officially unveiled at the NAIAS in January.
it has a blown 6.2-liter "LS9" small-block V-8 with 650HP and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, and it is said to supercede the Z06 in every measurable performance category - and by a considerable amount too.
The thing is said to be brutally fast -
The short story?
The Corvette ZR-1 represents the last of an era for GM, Corvette, and the entire domestic automobile industry.
From here on out, if you want high-performance you're going to pay dearly for it as the industry slowly converts to meet the upcoming fuel economy goals that were just put into law.
As it is, the new Corvette ZR-1 will cost approximately $100,000 when it appears late next year (we're guessing closer to $125,000 on the sticker by the time it hits Chevrolet showrooms), and it will be available in limited quantities.
Not a lot of money?
it's a steal!
When you compare the performance numbers that this car will deliver (0-60 in 3 sec. etc.) with what you have to spend elsewhere to get that level of performance.
And when you place the Corvette ZR-1 in proper perspective and understand what this car means in the Big Picture of things,
and that it represents the most glorious high-performance era in Detroit automotive history.
I predict you will see prices at dealerships approaching $200,000.00 - easily
